Papers of J. Clyde Haney consisting of letters written by Haney to his wife Vera and son Richard, and to his mother, Mae Haney in Janesville (Wis.), while undergoing basic training at Fort Blanding, Florida, then from the front in England and in Belgium. Also present are letters from Vera Haney to her husband, official documents from the military about Haney' remains, and several newspaper articles about Clyde Haney, Richard Haney, Vera Haney, and the aftermath of World War II.

Haney was drafted into the army in 1944, at the age of 32. He was subsequently placed as a paratrooper (private first-class) in Company B of the 193rd glider infantry of the 17th Airborne Division. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and was eventually killed during active service in a glider crash in Germany on March 24, 1945.
